This year the 2022 commemorative 2 euro coins issued by the Vatican have been dedicated to the “125th Anniversary of the birth of Pope Paul VI” and the “25th Anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa of Calcutta”. Dedicated to the same themes, the Vatican State Mint announces the issuance for next November 10 of two colored silver rectangular coins.

125th Anniversary of the birth of Pope Paul VI

This year marks the 125th anniversary of the birth of Giovanni Battista Montini, born in Concesio in 1897 and elected Pope in 1963 under the name of Paul VI.

 

The colored 25 euro coin, created by artist Daniela Fusco, will be issued by the Vatican Mint to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the birth of Saint Paul VI. The image of the pontiff, taken from an official photograph of 1969, was reproduced in the tapestry exhibited in Saint Peter's Square, on the occasion of his canonization, celebrated by Pope Francis on October 14, 2018.

 

25th Anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa of Calcutta

In 1997, at the age of 87, the earthly existence of Mother Teresa of Calcutta ends. The 25th anniversary of Saint Teresa's death is honored by the Vatican Mint with the issuance of a colored silver coin.

 

The Saint smiles, with a serene look and her hands together in prayer. On the tombstone of Mother Teresa's tomb in Bombay is engraved the phrase that Jesus said to the apostles during the Last Supper: "Love one another as I have loved you"; the same phrase appears on the reverse of the coin, the work of Gabriella Titotto.
