The Bank of Hungary (MNB) has issued a 2,000 guilder face coin under the name 'Király kis Miklós' (Little Miklós Király) belonging to the 'Hungarian Folk Tales' series. This coin is the second piece in the series of seven, started last year, which aims to present the values of Hungarian folk tales.

Production of the animated series of Hungarian folk tales began in 1977 at Kecskemét's Pannónia film studio. With its 100 episodes and 12.5 hours of animated material, the series introduces the viewer to the world of folk tales. The unique visual, musical and narrative scope of Hungarian folk tales makes this animated series exceptional. The kindness, humor, delicacy and mischief of folk tales faithfully portray the soul, feelings and true character of the Hungarian nation.

The stylized folk art floral motifs and dove design running down the left side of the coin's obverse follow the theme design of the animated series of Hungarian folk tales. The inscriptions are, «Magyarország» (Hungary), «2000 forint», on two lines, the year of minting «2022» and the mint mark «BP.». The sun in the top center, in reference to Hungarian mythology, the moon to the right and the 9 stars that surround it, complete the design of the obverse of the coin. Celestial bodies also play a prominent role in the folk tale “Király kis Miklós”, as the two main characters in the tale fight over them.

On the reverse side, the characters of the folk tale "Király kis Miklós" fight each other: the half-length portrait of the prince is surmounted by the portrait of a fire-breathing three-headed dragon. Below the representation of the dragon, on the right, appears the inscription "Király kis Miklós" in two lines, in handwriting that refers to the design of the theme. At the bottom, to the right of the figure of the prince, is the master mark of the artist Fanni Vékony, designer of the coin.

The coin is made of an alloy of copper (75%), nickel (4%) and zinc (21%). It weighs 16 grams and is 34 mm in diameter. The inscription 'MAGYAR NÉPMESÉK RAJZFILMSOROZAT ●●●' (animated series of Hungarian folk tales) is repeated on the edge. A total of 20,000 coins will be produced, all in Proof quality.
