Steaua de mare a Indiei de Vest se găsește în apele puțin adânci din vestul Oceanului Atlantic și din Marea Caraibilor.
Este o specie omnivoră, care se hrănește în principal cu sedimentele de pe fundul mării dar și cu alge epifite, bureți și nevertebrate mici.
Uneori crește până la aproximativ 50 de centimetri în diametru. De obicei, are cinci brațe groase și late, dar se pot intalni si unele exemplare cu patru, șase sau șapte brate.

A hálós tengeri csillag az Atlanti-óceán nyugati részének és a Karib-tengernek a sekély vizeiben fordul elő.
Mindenevő faj, elsősorban a tengerfenék üledékével, epifita algákkal, szivacsokkal és apró gerinctelenekkel táplálkozik.
Testmérete akár az 50 centiméteres átmérőt is elérheti. Általában öt vastag, széles karja van, amelyek egy párnázott koronghoz kapcsolódnak, de egyes példányok akár négy, hat vagy hét karral is rendelkezhetnek.

The red cushion sea star is found in shallow water in the western Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
It is an omnivorous species, primarily feeding on the seabed sediment and also with epiphytic algae, sponges and small invertebrates.
Sometimes it grows to about 50 centimeters in diameter. It usually has five thick, broad arms projecting from a broad cushioned disc but some specimens have four, six or seven arms.
