Continuing with the review of the new commemorative circulation coins presented by the British Royal Mint for this 2022, today we will discover a 50 pence piece dedicated to the XXII Commonwealth Games that will take place in Birmingham, from July 28 to August 8 of 2022.

With a history that goes back more than 90 years, the Commonwealth Games are one of the most important sporting events of the year, where the best athletes from the countries that make up the Commonwealth will be present.

This quadrennial event is sandwiched between the Summer Olympics, the Commonwealth Games provide athletes with a competition to test their skills against some of the best athletes in the world.

Since its introduction in 1930, the Commonwealth Games have been a center of athletic excellence and have featured some of the best competitors in their respective sports. This year, the Games return to England for the third time and will be held for the first time in the city of Birmingham.

Birmingham 2022's theme is 'Games for All', with a mindful approach to inclusion. As a result, the 2022 event features the largest women's program in Commonwealth Games history and marks the first time that a major multi-sport event will feature more events, and thus more medals, for women than men.

Among the tests, athletics, swimming, gymnastics and cycling stand out, as well as sports typical of the member countries such as badminton, cricket, polo or squash.

The reverse of the coin features nine V-shapes in the upper half, representing the Commonwealth Games Federation symbol three times, against a background of circles reminiscent of celebratory fireworks. To the right are designer Natasha Preece's initials NP. At the bottom and on three lines is the inscription BIRMINGHAM 2022 COMMONWEALTH GAMES.

The obverse of the coin shows the crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem crown worn for her coronation. Around it is the legend of the monarch and the date: ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · F · D · 50 PENCE · 2022 ·. Translated from Latin: Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith, followed by the facial and the year of issue. Below the image of the Queen are the initials JC that correspond to the designer, the artist Jody Clark.
