Yesterday, February 20, the first 2-euro commemorative coin issued by France in 2021 was put on sale in the Monnaie de Paris online store, destined to celebrate the «75 years of the founding of Unicef ». The BU and Proof versions (BE for the French) intended for collectors were those that in theory could be purchased from yesterday. I mean in theory, because once I received the mail from the aforementioned store advising of the sale, the coins already appeared as not available.
There are 10,000 coins of each type (BU and Proof) that have been put up for sale by the different distributors, at the recommended price of 10 and 20 euros respectively, although you have to be very careful with shipping costs from outside Spain since the final price can go up a lot. It should also be noted that the coins are not sent until March 29, so more than a sale it has been a pre-sale.
The positive initiative they have had with this issue is that 2 euros will be donated to Unicef for each of the coins sold in these versions, which will add up to a total of 40,000 euros for this NGO of recognized prestige throughout the world. All this without raising the price, last year the coins in these versions were worth the same.
In any case, most collectors will opt for the coin distributed in rolls, for which there will be no difficulty in acquiring it at a very affordable price, since the total issue volume of this piece is 7.5 million. In principle, this version of the currency intended for circulation is expected to be issued on March 16, although it cannot be ruled out that the date changes.
The coin represents the planet Earth in the form of a puzzle surrounded by two children's hands that remind us of UNICEF's commitment to children around the world. A Laurel branch, a reminder of the UNICEF logo and symbol of peace, is also present on the left side. Finally, the dates of the 75th anniversary of the creation of UNICEF are shown at the top, followed by the slogan "Pour chaque enfant" (For all children). The indication of the issuing State «RF» is at the bottom, below the mint mark and that of the engraver, Joaquin Jimenez.
