Peace. Tolerance. Equality. These are values ​​that remain valid, as 75 years ago when the devastation of war ushered in a new era of cooperation. On the 75th anniversary of the United Nations (UN), the Royal Canadian Mint has released a commemorative $ 1 coin to celebrate the important role played by Canada as a founding member and for its contribution to world peace.

There are two coins with the same design put into circulation, with the only difference that one is colored and the other is not. Of the total of the three million pieces that make up the emission, two million are colored and one million are not.

The design of the reverse by Joel Kimmel has a double date ("1945-2020") to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the United Nations and its Foundation Charter ("UN CHARTER CHARTRE DE L'ONU"). In a nod to the UN logo, a world map bordered by an olive branch wreath combined with a maple leaf is displayed, symbolizing Canada's commitment to the UN and its values. On the colored coin, the maple leaf is shown in red and the olive crown in green. Both versions include a laser engraving of a maple leaf within a circle.

The obverse of both coins, the work of Susanna Blunt, shows the usual image of Queen Elizabeth II, as in the rest of Canadian circulation coins.
