Given the endurance of the battleship Ankylosaurus magniventris, it's no surprise that this massive herbivore was one of the last large non-avian dinosaurs to roam Earth. Resembling a four-legged tank with a broad torso covered in humps, spines and protected by a corset with bones, not to mention the horns that point back from the back of its head, the Ankylosaurus magniventris comes to life in vivid detail on the fourth coin in the "Supersaurus" series being issued by the Austrian Mint, Münze Österreich.
It lived only a couple million million years before the extinction of flightless dinosaurs, at the end of the Cretaceous period, about 66-68 million years ago, the ankylosaurus magniventris measured 9 meters in length and weighed around 3.5 tons. He needed to eat up to 60 kg of food per day, so the dinosaur had little time for anything else. This has led some experts to speculate that the beast's extraordinarily wide belly, hence the name "magniventris," housed a digestive system that was capable of processing food in various stages.

The coin features an ankylosaurus in full color in its native prehistoric habitat, with a predator in the background.

This coin and all the ones in the series have the peculiarity that they have been colored with special inks that make the silhouette of the animal represented in the piece glow in the dark. The Austrian Mint will officially issue this fourth piece in the series on September 9.
The reverse of the coin represents an Ankylosaurus magniventris along with the silhouettes of the other eleven creatures that make up the Supersaurus series.
