The Vatican issues as the first 2 euro coin commemorating this year 2020 a piece dedicated to the "Centenary of the Birth of John Paul II", of which we already have a first image to show you. If it were not for the health emergency that we continue to experience, the currency should be issued during this month of May, but at the moment the Ufficio Filatelico e Numismatico Vaticano has not reported the date on which it plans to make it available to its customers. What we do know is the issuance volume, which amounts to 101,000 coins, which in principle, except for surprise, will be presented as every year, most in a purse, and a smaller part in the philatelic-numismatic combination called Busta.

The motif shows Pope John Paul II, the house in which he was born and the basilica near his home in Wadowice (Poland). The inscription "PAPA GIOVANNI PAOLO II" can be read in the upper left corner. On the right side are the years "1920 2020" and the mintmark "R". The name of the issuing State 'CITTA' DEL VATICANO ' can be read in a semicircle at the bottom
. Under the image of the basilica appear the artist's name «G. TITOTTO »and the initials of the recorder« MAC INC »(Maria Angela Cassol, recorder). The twelve stars of the European flag appear on the circular crown of the coin.
