On the occasion of the 350th anniversary of the founding of the University of Zagreb, the National Bank of Croatia today issued a new bimetallic commemorative coin with a face of 25 kunas (3.36 euros). The dodecagon-shaped coin, designed by the sculptor Damir Mataušić and minted by the Croatian Monetary Institute, has an emission volume of only 20,000 pieces.
On the back of the 25 kuna commemorative coin, a partial representation of the official logo of the University of Zagreb is displayed inside the nucleus, which consists of a stylized representation of the entrance facade to the University building (Rectorate and Faculty of Law) and the sculpture by Ivan Meštrović «History of the Croats», which is located in front of the entrance of the University building. Along the edge of the nucleus, under the partial representation of the official sign is the period from the year of the foundation of the University of Zagreb until the year of issuance of the currency »1669. - 2019 «. The inscription «350º ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ZAGREB) is presented circularly within the ring.
The reverse of the coin shows in the center of the core the number of the face value "25". Among the number 25 appears the image of a marten walking to the right. (The name of the monetary unit kuna comes from the Croatian word 'marten' which in Spanish means 'marta'). At the top of the coin ring, is the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia. To the left and right of the coat of arms the legend REPUBLIC OF CROATIA is inscribed along the outer edge of the surface of the ring. The name of the monetary unit «KUNA» is inscribed in the lower part of the coin ring, on the left there is a common oak branch in fruit, on the right a flowering laurel branch.
