Yesterday, July 20, the first commemorative 2 euro coin of Malta 2018 was officially issued. Within the series "Prehistoric Temples of Malta" is dedicated to the "Temples of Mnajdra". The main novelty, with respect to the predicted thing, is that the currency presented in coincard does not count on the announced mint mark of the Monnaie de Paris. Although I remind you that this coin does have the variant of the one issued in the euroset along with the rest of circulation coins, the mint mark "F" that appears in the central star of the lower part of the coin.
The motif shows the prehistoric Maltese temples of Mnajdra, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Mnajdra is a prehistoric site consisting of three temples arranged around an oval courtyard. It is located on the southern coast of Malta, about 500 meters from Hagar Qim, and is famous for its astronomical alignments. Apparently, the southern temple was built to signal the sunrise during the equinoxes and solstices. The oldest parts of this complex date from 3 600 to 3 200 a. C. In the upper right part of the motif are the inscriptions "TEMPLES DE MNAJDRA" (in English) and the dates "3 600-2 500 a. C. ", one under the others. On the bottom left is the name of the issuing State "MALTA" and under it, the year of issue "2018".
