The footprint of humanity on Earth is unfortunately massive. So great that the experts now agree that the impact of humanity on the planet is so profound that it is time to declare a new geological epoch: the Anthropocene. Examples of this impact are the radioactive elements scattered throughout the planet through nuclear tests, plastic pollution and the soot produced by fossil fuel power plants. From the end of the Ice Age, about 11,700 years ago, the subdivision of the Quaternary geological period, during which the entire human civilization developed, is known as the Holocene.
