Today, Belgium's second commemorative 2-euro coin was issued in 2025. The coin is dedicated to the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and, in principle, unless otherwise announced later, is one of those coins that will not be issued into circulation. It is only available in special presentations intended for collectors.
The issue has a limited run of 155,000 units. Of these, 150,000 are distributed in BU quality coin cards , available in equal parts Dutch and French versions. The remaining 5,000 are presented in Proof quality and come with an elegant slipcase.
The Spa-Francorchamps circuit celebrates 75 years of Formula 1
Silverstone, Monza, Indianapolis… and even Spa-Francorchamps: world-famous circuits that are among the best in motorsport. Many consider Spa to be the most beautiful circuit in the world. Its spectacular layout, the legendary Raidillon corner, and the natural undulations of the Ardennes make it unique.
A rich history
Races have been held here since 1921. Formula 1 raced there for the first time in 1950. In 2025, Spa-Francorchamps will celebrate its 75th anniversary as an F1 circuit, with greats such as Fangio, Senna, Schumacher, and Hamilton battling it out for victory.
The Coin
The coin features the current circuit layout as its main motif. On the left, the total distance (in meters) of the circuit is shown, "7.004 M," as well as its year of creation, "1921." Above the circuit silhouette is the text "CIRCUIT DE SPA FRANCORCHAMPS." Below, the country code, "BE," and the year of minting, "2025," are displayed, along with the mint master's mark (an Erlenmeyer flask) and the mint mark (the staff of Mercury). On the right, the initials "IB," corresponding to the designer Iris Bruijns, are displayed.
