Continuing its iconic series dedicated to the most prominent figures in Portuguese music, the Bank of Portugal issued a collector's coin designed by André Carrilho on July 9th, in tribute to singer Simone de Oliveira. With a face value of 5 euros, this issue comes in three versions: cupronickel, silver, and gold.
Cupronickel
The obverse depicts Simone de Oliveira during her historic performance at the 1969 Eurovision Song Contest. The image captures her expressive power on stage, and a particularly symbolic detail adorns her face: an earring bearing the Portuguese coat of arms. To the right of the image is the face value "€5"; and on the lower edge, we see the inscription "Casa da Moeda" alongside the name of the designer, "André Carrilho."
The reverse features a portrait of Simone de Oliveira, framed along the top edge of the composition by the inscription "Simone de Oliveira," highlighting the issue's motif. At the bottom, the design is completed by the inscriptions of the issuing country "Portugal" and the year of issue "2025."
