Today, November 27, 2024, the Bank of Ukraine issued a new 5-hryvnia coin, this time dedicated to an armored vehicle, the BTR-4 Bucephalus, a combat vehicle developed by Ukraine.
This four-wheel-drive armored combat vehicle combines a high level of protection, powerful weapons and excellent mobility, making it an indispensable element of the Armed Forces and the National Guard of Ukraine. This coin symbolizes the importance and effectiveness of the BTR-4 Bucephalus in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and recognizes the achievements of Ukrainian engineers in creating modern military equipment.
Obverse: A stylised image of a rearing horse, modelled from armour plates riveted together, is depicted on a plain background. The image of the horse is associated with the legendary Bucephalus, the horse of Alexander the Great, which symbolises loyalty, unbridled will and courage in the face of the enemy. On the right, on a matte background, there is a small coat of arms of Ukraine, under which are the inscription УКРАЇНА (Ukraine), the face value of the coin – 5, the graphic symbol of the hryvnia and the year of issue of the coin – 2024. Below, in the centre, is the mint mark of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.
Reverse: depicts a modern Ukrainian BTR-4 armoured personnel carrier firing from the combat module these vehicles are equipped with. Above it is the legend БТР-4E (BTR-4E), made in a style similar to that on the obverse of the coin: the letters and the number are made of riveted plates.
