Another of the famous investment coins minted and marketed by the Australian Perth Mint, the Koala, has been issued. Struck with 99.99% pure silver, the Koala in its 2024 version is available in one-ounce and one-kilogram sizes. While the one-ounce version has a limited run of 300,000 units, the one-kilo version has an unlimited run, although it will only be minted until the end of 2024.
More about the koala and the currency
The widespread recognition of the koala as a symbolic member of Australia's unique marsupial family led to the launch of the Australian Koala Silver Bullion Coin Series in 2007, which has since proven popular around the world. Hailing from a land often associated with menacing wildlife, the koala is a most docile, if not adorable, animal, spending vast amounts of time sleeping in trees and eating the leaves of its preferred species of eucalyptus.
Version 2024
The design of this coin, created by Ing Ing Jong, depicts a koala on a branch of eucalyptus. The coin bears the inscription “KOALA” and the special mintmark “P125”, which celebrates the 125th anniversary of The Perth Mint, as well as the weight, purity and year of issue of the coin.
The obverse of the coin features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, made by Dan Thorne, and the monetary denomination.
