To honour the centenary of its founding, the Hungarian National Bank, Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB), has issued a commemorative 100 forint circulation coin

The National Bank of Hungary, known in Hungarian as Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB), was founded on June 24, 1924. The main objective of this central bank is to maintain price stability in the country.

The founding of the Hungarian National Bank in 1924 occurred during a period of great economic and political instability in Europe. Following World War I, Hungary faced significant challenges, including the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the signing of the Treaty of Trianon in 1920, which resulted in the loss of much of its territory and population.

Against this backdrop, the Hungarian economy was in crisis, with rampant inflation and an urgent need to stabilise the currency and the economy. The creation of the National Bank of Hungary was a crucial step towards establishing an independent monetary policy and restoring confidence in the country's financial system.

The obverse of the coin shows the logo of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, surrounded by a detail of the motif taken from the decorative frame of the shares issued by the MNB in 1924. This motif interrupts the pearl necklace running along the ring, and extends beyond the inner core on both sides. The upper legend reads “MAGYARORSZÁG” (Hungary), with the inscription “100 ÉVE A FÜGGETLEN, STABIL PÉNZÜGYI RENDSZER ŐRE” (to protect the independent and stable financial system for 100 years) presented in a lower legend in three lines, and above this is the year “1924”, indicating the founding of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, and to the right the year of issue “2024”.

On the other hand, the reverse of the piece is identical to the current circulation of the same denomination, which shows the face value and the letters BP as the Budapest mint mark.
