On February 1, the Bank of Norway issued a commemorative circulation coin with a face of 20 crowns (1.77 euros) for the 750th anniversary of the national legal code of Magnus VI Lagabøte.

As one of the first kingdoms in Europe to do so, Norway adopted a nationally unified legal code in 1274. The legal code was promulgated by King Magnus VI Håkonsson, called Magnus VI Lagabøte, and adopted in all regional legislative assemblies in Norway. . The national legal code replaced the previous regional legal codes and ensured uniform treatment of property disputes and criminal sanctions in all parts of the country. The legal code of Magnus VI Lagabøte was repealed in 1687, but certain principles and formulations remain in current Norwegian law.

The motif on the reverse of the coin is a modern interpretation of the equestrian seal of Magnus Lagabøte (1278), depicting a mounted king lifting a scale. Twelve points represent the members of the Court of Appeal. Along the edge of the coin is inscribed the text: “MAGNUS LAGABØTES LANDSLOV 750 ÅR” (750 years of the legal code of Magnus Lagabøte) and the denomination of the coin (20 KR) is located below the horse. The signature of the designer, Michael Guilfoyle (MJG) is located to the left on the surface of the coin.

The obverse of the coin shows King Harald V of Norway in a profile portrait facing right. Around the portrait: HARALD V ∙ KING OF NORWAY. To the left of the portrait, at neck level, appears the signature of Ingrid Austilid Rise, engraver of the Norwegian mint. At the bottom the year of issue "2024" and the mint mark appear.
