Another commemorative coin that The Royal Mint has issued this year, the British Royal Mint, is again a 50 pence coin minted in cupro-nickel. This new commemorative piece is dedicated this time to "Team GB" and "ParalympicsGB", Olympic and Paralympic teams of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Team GB and ParalympicsGB

In 2024, the Olympic Games will return to Paris, France, for the third time. Exactly 100 years after the city last hosted the Games in 1924. This is also the first time that France will host the summer Paralympic Games.

“Team GB” aims to unite the nation through the power of Olympic sport, with British athletes at the center of this ambition. Their stories of extraordinary achievements unite the nation and inspire others to find theirs extraordinary. Athletes on this team will join other athletes from around the world to compete in 319 events in 32 sports.

ParalympicsGB are champions of change in a sporting revolution started by Sir Ludwig Guttmann at Stoke Mandeville Hospital more than 70 years ago. Today, ParalympicsGB is a world-leading sporting team, winning medals in a record-breaking range of sports to help unite and inspire the nation. The success of this team's athletes on the field of play can be harnessed to make real, sustainable change in the lives of all disabled people across the UK.

Design – Charis Tsevis

On the reverse of the coin we can see a neo-futuristic composition in which two athletes appear representing the Olympic and Paralympic Games, with the flag of the United Kingdom in the background, thus unifying the athletes. At the bottom the Eiffel Tower is shown, alluding to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and next to it, the initials of the Greek designer "CT" (Charis Tsevis).

Again on the obverse of the coin, there is the official portrait, by Martin Jennings, of King Charles III along with the inscriptions surrounding the bust: face value of the coin (50 pence), year of issue "2024", and the legend in abbreviated Latin «DG REX. FD» (Dei Gratia Rex) and (Fidei Defensor) (King by the grace of God and Defender of the Faith).
