Continuing with the series started in 2017 called “Russian (Soviet) Animation”, the Bank of Russia issued on October 20 a new coin dedicated to the Russian animated series “The Scarlet Flower”, which is available in three different versions . One of them, with a face of 25 rubles, is available in nickel-plated steel, the second piece, also with a face of 25 rubles, is minted in cupronickel, while the last coin, with a face of 3 rubles, has been minted in silver. The pieces issued in cupronickel and silver have colored elements.

The Scarlet Flower

The Scarlet Flower is a Soviet animated feature film directed by Lev Atamanov and based on Sergey Aksakov's fairy tale about a young man turned into a beast and a young woman who, through her love for him, transforms him back into a human.

The fairy tale was first published in 1858 as an appendix to the family chronicle “Childhood Years of Bagrov–Grandson.” The first animated film based on this fairy tale was released almost a century later, in 1952. The images of the heroes were created by the artist Leonid Shvartsman.

 

On the reverse of the three coins we see a relief image of the scene from the animated film “The Scarlet Flower” and the relief inscription on the top “АЛЕНЬКИЙ ЦВЕТОЧЕК” (THE SCARLET FLOWER).

 

Likewise, the common obverse of the coins features an image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and a semicircular inscription above along the edge “РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) framed with paired diamonds on both sides. Under the coat of arms in the center, in three lines, appears the inscription “БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the face value of the piece “25 РУБЛЕЙ” (25 RUBLES) and the year of issue “2023 г.” (2023), while the mint mark appears on the right.
