The Czech National Bank issues a new 500 CZK facial silver coin dedicated to the legendary Tatra 603 automobile.

The modern six-seater Tatra 603 limousine was created at the Tatra Kopřivnice plant under the leadership of Julius Mackerle and Vladimír Popelář, with a design by František Kardaus and Zdeněk Kovář. The official premiere of this car took place at the 1958 EXPO World Exhibition in Brussels, and between 1958 and 1975 more than 20,000 cars were produced in series. The most common paint color was black for representational purposes. Three passengers could sit in the front of the car, so the gear stick is part of the steering wheel. The engine was located at the rear of the car. Beginning in 1962, several updates were made with minor feature changes, the most notable being the replacement of the original trio of lights with two separate pairs.

On the obverse of the piece we see a front view of the Tatra 603 on a tiled floor, where part of the dashboard and steering wheel of the car also appear. The inscription "ČESKÁ" appears on the left edge of the coin and "REPUBLIKA" near the bottom edge. On the right we see the face value “500 Kč” (500 CZK), and next to it the mark of the Czech Mint “Č” and “M”.

The back of the piece is divided into two parts. The upper part shows a picture of the Tatra 603. The lower part shows a technical drawing of the car from a side perspective and a partial technical drawing of the car from above. The side view of the car includes a black inlay. The inscriptions "TATRA 603" also appear, and the year of issue "2023" separated by a period. The logo of the brand is on the left, and under it, the initials "P" and "B" (Petra Brodská), designer of the coin.

Technical characteristics of the coin

Struck in an alloy containing 925 parts silver and 75 parts copper, it is available in two qualities, BU quality and Proof quality. The BU parts have a grooved edge, while the Proof parts have it smooth and with the inscription "ČNB * OSOBNÍ AUTOMOBIL * T603 *". The total weight of the coin including the inlay is 26.1 g, its diameter is 40 mm, and its thickness is 2.6 mm. The circulation is limited to a maximum of 30,000 coins (10,794 in BU quality and 19,206 in Proof quality).
