On July 24, the National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK) issued a 100 tenge cupro-nickel coin with a face, belonging to the “Outstanding Events and People” series. This piece is dedicated to commemorating the 125th anniversary of the birth of Temirbek Zhurgenov, a great figure of Kazakhstan's culture and art.

Temirbek Zhurgenov

Temirbek Zhurgenov. T. Zhurgenov (1898 – 1938), prominent statesman, professor, journalist and public figure, was the first Kazakhstan Minister of Education, thanks to whom, in 1934, the construction of the six largest universities in Kazakhstan and the entire Central Asia. Temirbek Zhurgenov thus made an important contribution to the development of education, culture and literature, having also a great influence on the development of modern journalism in the country.

 

On the reverse of the coin we can see, on one side, the representation of the portrait of Temirbek Zhurgenov on a background of mountains and parallel lines symbolizing the rays of the sun. On the other side we see, the date of his birth and death “1898 – 1938”, the logo of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, the inscription 125 JYL (years), and the year of issue “2023”.

 

While on the obverse of the piece is the coat of arms of Kazakhstan surrounded by decorative ornamental figures, and under it, the face value of "100 tenge". Framing the coin appears the inscription "Bank of Kazakhstan", in the Kazakh and English languages, respectively.
