The Bank of Hungary issued a silver collector's coin with a face value of 15,000 guilders called 'Himnusz', and its cupronickel version of 3,000 guilders, earlier this year to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Writing of the Hymn Poem, written in the which the Hungarian national anthem was based on. It has been designed by the sculptor Tamás E. Soltra.

The poem that became the national anthem was written by Ferenc Kölcsey in 1823. The original title was "Hymnus, a' Magyar nép zivataros századaiból" (Of the stormy centuries of the Hungarian nation) (abbreviated: Himnusz after applying the spelling rules current).

The poem was first published in 1829 in Károly Kisfaludy's magazine Aurora under the title Hymnus, and three years later in Ferenc Kölcsey's first volume, with the full subtitle, which better conveyed the poem's message. Thus, Ferenc Kölcsey led the way to national romanticism in the development of Hungarian lyric poetry, instead of following the stylistic conventions of classicism.
The music for the Hymn was created by the composer and conductor Ferenc Erkel in 1844, after a contest to set the poem to music.

The Hungarian national anthem became legally protected in 1989, when the 1989 Constitution added it to the list of national symbols, and Hungarian Culture Day has been celebrated ever since on January 22, in honor of the completion of the anthem's manuscript.
Article 1 of the Basic Law, which entered into force on January 1, 2012, stipulates: "The Hungarian national anthem shall be the poem Himnusz by Ferenc Kölcsey, set to music by Ferenc Erkel."

On the obverse of the coin is a half-length portrait of Ferenc Kölcsey, based on a painting by Anton Einsle from 1835. This image refers to the seclusion in which the Hymn was written in Szatmárcseke. In addition, the poet's last name appears hidden in his clothes.

Below the illustration, there is a feather that alludes to the authorship of Kölcsey. The two lines under the portrait show the inscription "Hymnus", in the style of the original manuscript, and the year "1823", the year in which the poem was written. The inscription “MAGYARORSZÁG” (Hungary) is shown vertically to the right of the portrait. Below, on the left side, the year of issue “2023”, the mintmark “BP.”, and the denominations “15000” and “3000”, as well as the inscription “FORINT”.

While on the reverse of the coin there is a panoramic view of the text of the Anthem and of the emblematic landscapes of Hungary (Tihany, Lake Balaton, Szigliget, Esztergom, the Danube Bend, Eger and Tokaj), the grave of Kölcsey is also shown. in Szatmárcseke that appears in the center of the composition. The rays that appear in this motif are projected from the triangle in the center that symbolizes the Holy Trinity, making reference to the very sacred nature of the poem. Circularly around the triangle appears the inscription «NYÚJTS FELÉJE VÉDŐ KART HA KÜZD ELLENSÉGGEL» (With Your help his just cause presses, Where his enemies appear to fight.) The signature of the sculptor and medalist Tamás E. Soltra, is hidden in the representation of Tokaj.
