First it was the Iberian Lynx, then the Bull and in this 2023 the Carthusian Horse will be the protagonist of the new investment-collection coin that will be issued by the National Currency and Stamp Factory – Real Casa de la Moneda in a few days.

In 2021 Spain joined a select group of countries that mint this type of coin with the issuance of a piece made up of one ounce of pure gold in which the protagonist was the Lynx on one side and a real on the other. columnar type, unequivocal symbol of the historical Spanish silver coin recognized worldwide within the numismatic culture. The columnar is still the motif represented on all the coins, although in 2022 it had modifications making it much more attractive and recognizable.

As I said, in 2022 it was the bull, and next Monday, July 3, the Carthusian Horse will be represented in the new currency.

These coins, which are linked to the price of gold, are currently priced at around 1,930 euros. For those who would like to have this type of coin but their economy does not allow it, there is also a tenth of an ounce version with the same design that is usually issued the following year. Thus, the Carthusian Horse will be issued in 2024, if everything continues as to date.

ONE OUNCE GOLD COIN DEDICATED TO THE CARTHUSIAN HORSE

 

 

On the reverse of the coin, an image of a horse is reproduced. To its left, in an ascending circular direction and in capital letters, the legend CABALLO CARTUJANO, next to the mint mark and the year of issue 2023. In the upper part, horizontally and in capital letters, the face value of piece 1, €5. The motifs and legends are surrounded by a graphic of pinions.

 

On the obverse, there is a representation of the motifs and legends of a columnar-type royal: two hemispheres under a royal crown, flanked by the Pillars of Hercules with the motto PLUS ULTRA, all on a sea with waves. In the upper center of the piece, within a circle, in the form of a quadruple latent image, appear the mint mark, a five-pointed star, the graphic symbol of the euro and the silhouette of the pillar. At the top, in a circular direction and in capital letters, appears the legend FELIPE VI REY DE ESPAÑA. At the bottom of the coin, in a circular direction, the legend 1 OUNCE 999.9 GOLD. The motifs and legends are surrounded by a graphic of pinions.

A CURRENCY WITH A UNIQUE SECURITY MEASURE 

 

One element that makes this coin unique among bullion (investment) coins is the inclusion on the obverse of a security measure patented by the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre – Real Casa de la Moneda itself, the quadruple latent image. This security measure allows you to see four different images in the same space on the coin depending on the incidence of light and the angle from which you look at it. The mint mark, a five-pointed star, the graphic symbol of the euro and the silhouette of the columnar appear on the coin.
