On May 17, 2023, the Czech National Bank issued a silver 200 CZK face coin to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of regular Czechoslovak radio broadcasting.

It was back in 1923, specifically on May 18 at 8:15 in the afternoon, when Czechoslovak Radio began broadcasting from what was a Scouts' tent in the Kbely neighborhood of Prague. Czechoslovakia thus became the second country in Europe to establish regular broadcasting. At first they were only one-hour broadcasts, but they soon became longer and more varied segments that even included broadcasts in English and Esperanto as early as 1924.

The popularity, size and resources of the country's radio grew rapidly from then on and Czechoslovak Radio would also play important roles in the country's history by providing vital information to its citizens during the 1945 uprising against the occupying forces. The obverse of the coin features a radio microphone, with stylized radio waves emanating from transmission masts on each of its sides, one on the left and two on the right. The historic building of the Kbely Broadcasting Station is in the background at the bottom right of the coin. The text “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA” is written around the bottom edge of the coin. The denomination and the abbreviated monetary unit “200 Kč” are on the bottom of the coin. The Czech Mint mark, in the form of the letters “Č” and “M”, is located on the right edge of the coin.

The reverse of the coin features the historic marquee that is associated with the early days of broadcasting. Behind the tent is a transmission mast, the left side of which is partly covered by the historical logo of Czechoslovakia Radio from 1991. The texts “ČESKOSLOVENSKÝ ROZHLAS” and “1923–2023” are written around the outer circle of the coin. The initials of the coin designer Marie Šeborová, made up of the letters “M” and “Š”, are located next to the carp on the right edge of the coin.

The coin has been minted with an alloy containing 925 parts of silver and 75 parts of copper. It is also issued in two versions, in BU quality and in Proof quality. The Proof quality coins have a smooth edge with the Czech inscription “ČESKÁ NÁRODNÍ BANKA * Ag 0.925 * 13 g *”. While the BU quality coins have a grooved edge. The coin is 31mm in diameter, weighs 13g and is 2.2mm thick.
