Today, April 27, the San Marino Philatelic and Numismatic Division issued the first 2-euro commemorative coin of this year under the name "500th anniversary of the death of Perugino". Pietro Vannucci, known as il Perugino, was one of the Masters of the Italian Renaissance, an artist who greatly influenced his contemporaries and whose works still captivate anyone who sees them today.

The image represented on the coin is taken from the work "Virgin and Child between Saint John the Baptist and Saint Sebastian" made in 1493, it is an oil on panel commissioned by Cornelia Salviati, widow of the Florentine merchant Giovanni Martini, for the chapel of the church of the convent of San Domenico in Fiesole. Restored in 1995, color, light, and perspective are considered significant.

The obverse of the coin represents the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, detail of the painting "Virgin and Child between Saint John the Baptist and Saint Sebastian", kept in the Uffizi Galleries (Florence). The coin is completed, on the left, with the inscription PERUGINO, the dates 1523 and 2023 and, at the bottom, with the letter R, which identifies the Rome Mint; on the right, with the inscription SAN MARINO and, at the bottom, with the author's initials, Maria Angela Cassol, MAC. Around it are the twelve stars of the European Union.

The coin is presented in the typical wallets that San Marino uses for the 2 euro commemorative coins. The issue volume is only 56,000 pieces.
