The Vatican City State Mint presents the new series of Euro coins dated 2023. The series consists of eight values (2 and 1 Euros, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2, 1 cents ), the reverse is common to all the countries that belong to the single European currency. On the obverse of all the pieces is represented the shield of the Holiness of Pope Francis, Sovereign of the Vatican City State, the inscription "Città del Vaticano" and twelve stars.

The Vatican State Mint dedicates the 5-euro bimetallic coin to Don Lorenzo Milani, on the centenary of his birth.
On the reverse of the coin, the artist Marco Ventura depicted Don Milani with a group of children. Behind him, to the left, we can see the small town of Barbiana, and to the right we read the phrase: "I care" written on the page of a book. These elements fully represent the vocation with which Don Milani characterized his priesthood from the beginning: care for education and care for his parishioners.
In 1954 he founded a popular school open to young people and peasants from the surrounding area. The school was avant-garde for its time: open all year round, foreign languages were studied among the many activities and study and work trips abroad were organized. It is not surprising, therefore, that the motto "I care", written on the walls of the school, is in English, since for Don Milani this phrase represented the cornerstone on which he founded his teaching and his commitment to the most weak: "I care, I care, I care."

The series is available in two versions: one with a 20-euro silver coin and the other with a 50-euro gold coin.
