The New Zealand Mint has issued a new one-ounce silver coin to celebrate the long-standing friendship between Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, dating back to the 1930s when the two first appeared together for the first time on screen, being one of the oldest friendships in the world of entertainment.
Mickey and Donald have shared screen time in multiple Disney productions over the years. They are often introduced as close friends, and are well known for their pranks and antics. But even though they both have very different personalities, they are close friends and have a strong connection to each other.
Mickey is usually the calm, level-headed leader who tries to resolve conflicts peacefully, while Donald is often irritable, impulsive, and prone to getting into trouble. Despite their differences, the two characters complement each other perfectly, and have been able to go on many adventures together as a team.
On the obverse of the coin we see Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck posing side by side in a playful pose, as they are always known. The inscriptions of the metal and its purity "1 oz 999 Fine Silver" and the copyright of Disney™ also appear.
While the reverse shows, in the center, the coat of arms of Niue, above, the inscription of its face value "TWO DOLLARS", and at the bottom the year of issue "2023".
