On the 31st of last month, the Bank of Russia decided to issue a silver coin to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Birth of Feodor Chaliapin, thus expanding its already well-known series of coins dedicated to the Outstanding Persons of Russia.

Feodor Chaliapin (1873–1938) was a Russian opera singer who performed at the world's major opera houses, including the Bolshoi Theatre, the Mariinsky Theatre, and the Metropolitan Opera. His talent was admired by composers Sergei Prokofiev and Anton Rubinstein, music critic Vladimir Stasov, who called him a "great artist", and Maxim Gorky, who believed Chaliapin represented an entire era in Russian art.

On the obverse of the coin appears, in relief, the portrait of Feodor Chaliapin on a background with images of his stage characters and a fragment of the staff, the singer's signature on the bottom right, and on the left the years of his birth and death "1873" and "1938".

While the obverse of the coin features a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and a semicircular inscription along the edge: 'РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ' (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) framed with diamonds on both sides, below the coat of arms there is the chemical symbol of the metal and fineness on the left and the fine metal content and the mintmark on the right, in the bottom center, in three lines, there is an inscription: 'БАНК РОССИИ' ( BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin: '2 РУБЛЯ' (2 RUBLES), and the year of issue: '2023 г.' (2023).
