To pay homage to one of the great artists of the late 19th and mid-20th centuries, Ukraine has issued this coin for the 150th Anniversary of Vasyl Krychevskyi's Birth.
Said Ukrainian artist took his art to many fields, since he delved into painting, architecture, book design and cinematographic works, he was also a great educator and art scholar. The 1918 Ukrainian coat of arms was designed by himself, along with state seals and banknotes.
Taking the Ukrainian people as artistic inspiration, Vasyl Hryhorovych Krychevskyi left an important legacy in his wake, since he expressed his art in each of the existing artistic fields, creating his own completely innovative style.
On the obverse of the coin we can see, in the background, an ornament designed by the artist, an inscription on the upper part with the engraving УКРАЇНА (Ukraine), and below, a small Ukrainian state coat of arms, the year of minting: 2023; in the center, a decorative "tree of life", an element that appears on the Ukrainian state credit card, and the face value of the ДВІ ГРИВНІ (two grivnas) coin. And finally, below, the mint mark of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine.
On the reverse of the coin is a portrait of the artist Vasyl Krychevsky and to the right of it a composition that refers to his artistic legacy: the Coat of Arms of Ukraine, below, the main facade of the building of the Poltava Provincial Zemstvo (1903-1908). ), built under the artist's design, thus being the first example of the new Ukrainian architectural style. The inscriptions also appear: «VASYL KRYCHEVSKY» in a semicircular shape, and his date of birth and death «1873 – 1952».
