Every year hundreds of thousands of visitors, exhibitors and competitors gather at Toronto's Exhibition Place to celebrate excellence in agriculture, local food and equine sport. The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair has grown to become the world's largest indoor agricultural fair and equestrian competition, and 2022 marks a major milestone for this annual event as it marks its centenary, which is more than enough reason why the Royal Canadian Mint has decided to issue a commemorative silver coin.
The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair (RAWF), is an annual agricultural fair that takes place in Toronto during the first two weeks of November. It was inaugurated in 1922, since then, it has been expanded occupying more and more space.
The Fair's main objective is to inform attendees, lovers of agriculture and farmers, of the latest techniques and new discoveries that are taking place in the field of agriculture in contemporary times. Farmers from all over the world have the opportunity to actively participate in this international exhibition that this year takes place from November 5 to 13.
Designed by Canadian artist Claire Watson, the reverse of her coin is double dated (“1922-2022”) to commemorate 100 years of The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. Its mix of crop and livestock-themed design elements represent some of the events and exhibits featured at the Fair, while the event logo ("THE ROYAL") and a champion's rosette honor a century of agricultural and equine excellence.
The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
