The Bank of Slovakia has presented its common type 2-euro commemorative coin for the 35th Anniversary of the Erasmus Programme, a coin that it plans to issue next July 1 together with the majority of the Member States of the Eurozone.
The coin features a design dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Erasmus student mobility programme. Erasmus is a program of the European Union that finances education, training, youth and sport. The program is designed to support international studies, promote cooperation between countries, and bridge different cultures.
The design of the coin is a mix of two main elements of the Erasmus program: the original intellectual inspiration, Erasmus himself, and the allegory of his influence in Europe. The first is symbolized by one of the best-known representations of Erasmus. The second is symbolized by a bundle of links running through the coin from one lighthouse to another, representing the numerous intellectual and human exchanges between European students.
As a reference to Europe, some of these links form other stars, born from the synergy between the countries. Figure 35, for the 35th anniversary, rises from the stars in a contemporary graphic style.
The issue volume of the Slovakian coin will be 1 million pieces, 995,000 intended for circulation will be distributed in rolls of 25 coins, and 5,000 in Proof quality intended for collectors, they will be presented in a case and put up for sale at a price determined.
