In 2022, the Casa da Moeda de Portugal presents a pioneering initiative, which pays tribute to the 111 years of the Higher Institute of Economics and Management, for its decisive role in the country's history. It was the first autonomous higher school of economics and commerce, initially called the Higher Institute of Commerce, and contributed greatly to the prestige of the commercial profession. Throughout these 111 years, several of his students became prominent businessmen and rulers of Portugal.
There are three coins dedicated to this motif, with the same design, that make up this issue, each minted on a different metal, although one is very peculiar, since it is made up of one kilo of silver, this being the first time that the Portuguese Mint presents a coin of these characteristics.
This coin was conceived by the designer Jorge Silva, and in it we see Mercury, or Hermes, the god of commerce.
The issue date for the "normal" coins was May 23 today, the 1 kilo silver coin will be issued on a date yet to be determined.
