The Italian Mint, Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, has officially presented the Italian numismatic program for this 2022. In this post I will show you all the announced pieces and I will leave you a link to the catalog where you can find more information about each one of the coins, as well as a beautiful video.

In total there will be 17 reasons to which coins will be dedicated this year, whose themes celebrate historical events, artists, characters of enormous symbolism for Italy in its tradition and business culture, but also for the memory and gratitude towards those who , like the magistrates Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, sacrificed their own lives for the fight against the mafias and for the brave defense of the institutions, leaving an indelible mark on future generations.

ITALY NUMISMATIC PROGRAM 2022

Triptych of 5 euro coins in silver and triptych of 20 euros in gold «150th Anniversary of the founding of Pirelli»
 

 


This year marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of Pirelli, hence the issue of these coins. Founded in Milan in 1872 by Giovanni Battista Pirelli, the company specialized in rubber and derived processes, especially in the production of tires and cables.

5 euro silver coin «800th Anniversary of the founding of the University of Padua»
 

 The University of Padua is among the most important universities in Italy, and among the oldest in the world, founded in 1222 this year it celebrates its 800th anniversary.

20 euros in gold ¼ oz and 50 euros in gold ½ oz «The reissue of the Lira – 2 Lire»
 

 


These coins reproduce an old Italian 2 lira coin.

2 euro commemorative coin «170th Anniversary of the founding of the Polizia di Stato»
 

The Polizia di Stato is a national police force in Italy and this year celebrates its 170th anniversary. It is a civil police and security body dependent on the Ministry of the Interior. It is the Italian counterpart of other police forces, such as the National Police Corps in Spain.

10 euro gold microcoin “Fountains of Italy – Trevi Fountain” series
 

 The Trevi Fountain is the largest and most famous fountain in Rome, considered by many to be the most beautiful fountain in the world. It has a width of 20 meters and a height of 30 meters. It is located in the Piazza di Trevi. It marks the end point of the three-road junction that leads to Acqua Vergine, one of the aqueducts that once served as Ancient Rome's water source.

2 euros «30th Anniversary of the death of Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino»
 

This coin pays tribute to the anti-mafia judges, Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, 30 years after the Sicilian mafia murdered them in 1992, as a form of revenge by Cosa Nostra for the multi-prosecution against several mafia bosses.

5 euros Series “Italian Food and Wine Culture – Primitive and Orecchiette”
 

 The issuance of this series of coins continues, which takes a tour of Italian gastronomy, this time with Primitivo wine and Orecchiette pasta.
