Today, January 25, the first commemorative 2-euro coin in France for 2022 has been issued. On the 90th anniversary of his birth, the Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to Jacques Chirac. President of the French Republic for two terms, he is one of the main architects of the European construction. As such, he was also the chairman of the introduction of the euro in 2002, the 20th anniversary of which we celebrate this year.
The face of this coin shows a solemn profile of President Jacques Chirac looking towards the future. It is surrounded by various symbols that represent its heritage: a euro symbol, a sign of its participation in the introduction of the euro and its European spirit, and a French flag depicted in heraldic colours, adorned in turn with the letters RF, as reference his presidency of the French Republic. Your dates and your name are inserted in the euro logo. Mint marks and the year of issue also appear on the design.
The total issue is 9 million coins, of which 10,000 in BU quality are presented in a coincard and another 10,000 in Proof quality in a case. The latter will not go on sale until February 15.
Coin card
The coincard features a photograph of Jacques Chirac in profile. It shows the politician in a solemn way. His name is visible at the top just below a ribbon in the colors of the French flag. The year 2022 is inscribed at the top left.
The reverse of the coincard presents the characteristics of the coin. The coin is presented with a tricolor decoration in which the flag of the French Republic and the national motto, LIBERTE – EGALITE – FRATERNITE.
