A curious coin made up of four pieces, the one issued by the Bank of Ukraine in the last days of 2021 under the name of "Cossack Jewels". This set of four commemorative coins pays tribute to the groups of social and military formations, initially of Slavic origin, which settled permanently in the steppes of what is now southern Russia and Ukraine, providing military services to the rulers neighbors of Rostov-on-Don, Kuban, the Caucasus, and Ukraine. The Cossacks were known primarily for their military prowess.
At one point in history, the Ukrainian lands fell under the rule of neighboring states: Lithuania and Poland, forming one of the largest and most powerful monarchies in Europe, the Commonwealth. This state existed from the 16th century to the late 18th century, bringing together the territories of present-day Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, and western Russia.
At the same time, the Ukrainian phenomenon of chivalry reached its peak, and Cossacks appeared on the European scene. For a time, they even managed to create their own state called Hetmanato (Sich of Zaporizhzhia). Cossack detachments participated in almost all the great wars in the region, either as an independent military force or as mercenaries. They had their own customs, their self-government and an original military tradition.
On the obverse of all coins they show: at the top, the State Coat of Arms of Ukraine, under which the inscription UKRAINE; the face value 10 hryvnias; below the year of minting, the weight of each coin and its purity, the type of metal and the issuer: 2021 / 31.1 / Ag 999 and the mark of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine; in the center of each coin there are different compositions that symbolize the Cossack era.
The reverse of the coins represents the seals of hetman (in gold), one of the main Cossack jewels. The stamps date from the 16th-18th centuries and are associated with various stages in the history of the Cossacks.
A total of 2,000 sets of these coins are those that have been issued.
