The coins dedicated to Space themes have a very unique beauty. Trying to capture immense objects and spaces is a real challenge for designers and engravers, who must convey all of this in the small space of a coin blank. Despite the difficulties they present, the results are usually very showy and highly demanded by numismatic collectors.The last coins of this type that I have known have been presented by the National Bank of Kazakhstan and are dedicated to the Salyut Space Station, launched by the Soviet Union on April 19, 1971, becoming the first space station in history. With these coins dated 2021, the 50th anniversary of the launch of Salyut -1 is celebrated, which was directed from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, currently located in the territory of Kazakhstan, although under Russian control.

It is evident that the coin made up of silver in its ring and tantalum in its disc is much more beautiful. Tantalum is a metal originally grayish blue in color, which through a series of processes carried out by the Kazakh mint, make it acquire other tones or colors, for this coin in particular a bluish color.
On the reverse of the coins in the center is an image of the orbital space station «Salyut-1». On the outer ring are the names of the coins in the Kazakh, Russian and English languages, as well as the inscription “1971-2021”, as the anniversary of the release. On the left is an image of the Earth from space. In the lower part there is an inscription BAIKONUR.
On the obverse of the coin, there is an image that symbolizes the unity of the human being with the universe as a connection between the present and the past. On the right side of the coin, there is the inscription indicating the face value of the coin. At the bottom is the mint mark of the Kazakhstan Mint. Along the circumference are the inscriptions "QAZAQSTAN RESPÝBLIKASY" in the state language and "REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN" in English.

For those interested in acquiring these coins, I must warn you that they have not been issued yet, they were announced at the beginning of last December but they are not for sale anywhere. Furthermore, there are a few more announced Kazakh coins that have not been issued either. Approximately half or more of the 2021 coins are still not available.
Salyut 1 Space Station
Salyut 1 was the first space station in history launched into low Earth orbit 200 kilometers above the Earth's surface by the Soviet Union on April 19, 1971.It remained in orbit for 175 days until it was destroyed in a controlled manner on October 11. It was twenty meters long and four meters wide. The exterior had solar panels to supply electricity, radiators to maintain temperature, sensors and motors for the orientation and maneuvering system.
Two Soyuz spacecraft visited the station before it burned up as it re-entered the atmosphere. He carried two telescopes to observe the stars. The cosmonauts conducted medical tests on each other and studied the growth of plants in space.
