On Monday December 20, together with the series dedicated to the «275th Anniversary of the birth of Francisco de Goya», the first part of the new collection of coins «History of the Railroad» is issued. This new series reproduces a selection of Trains that, for one reason or another, have been relevant over time.


This series will follow the same line as the one issued between 2018 and 2019 under the name "History of Navigation" and in 2020 "History of Aviation". The face value will be the same, 1.5 euros, they will be minted in a cupro-nickel alloy with a diameter of 33 mm, and the face on which each of the trains is presented will be in full color.

In total the collection is made up of twenty coins, the first fifteen come together with an exclusive book-album, where the complete collection can be kept. For this new series we have had the collaboration of Renfe and the Spanish Railways Foundation, a foundation entrusted with the recovery, custody, generation and dissemination of the railway's historical, cultural, scientific and technological heritage.

Fifteen coins of the first series


On the obverse of the first piece, in the central area, an image of a Spanish High Speed ​​train, AVE, is reproduced in colors. Above the central image, in a circular sense and in capital letters, the legend RENFE-AVE. The motifs and legends in the central area are surrounded by a line of pinions. On the outer area of ​​the coin, in a circular sense, there are motifs that recall the shapes of the railway tracks and, in the lower part, in a circular sense and in capital letters, the legend ESPAÑA and the year of minting 2021.

On the obverse of the second piece, in the central area, an
image of a replica of the Le Belge steam locomotive is reproduced in color , which is kept in the central workshop in the Belgian city of Mechelen. Above the central image, in a circular sense and in capital letters, the legend LE BELGE.


On the obverse of the third piece, in the central area, a drawing of the Autorail Bugatti Wagon Rapide is reproduced in color. Above the central image, in circular and capital letters, the legend AUTORAIL BUGATTI 2-WR.

On the obverse of the fourth piece, in the central area, an
image of a replica of the BEST FRIEND OF CHARLESTON steam locomotive is reproduced in color . On top of the central image, in a circular , and upper, legend Best Friend of Charleston.


On the obverse of the fifth piece, in the central area, an
image of the Crampton steam locomotive number 80 is reproduced in color , which operated on the Paris-Strasbourg line, and was known as "Le Continent". Above the central image, in a circular sense and in capital letters, the legend CRAMPTON 80-LE CONTINENT.

On the obverse of the sixth piece, in the central area, an
image of a Renfe Cercanías train, a commercial division of the

On the obverse of the seventh piece, in the central area, a
drawing of the La Madrileña train is reproduced in colors . Above the central image, in a circular sense and in capital letters, the legend LA MADRILEÑA.

On the obverse of the eighth piece, in the central area, an
image of Locomotive 1615 "Marilyn" is reproduced in color . Above the central image, in a circular sense and in capital letters, the legend LOCOMOTORA 1615.


On the obverse of the ninth piece, in the central area, an
image of the mythical Orient Express train is reproduced in color . Above the central image, in a circular sense and in capital letters, the legend ORIENT EXPRESS.

On the obverse of the tenth piece, in the central area, an
image of the Pendolino train, model ETR 450 , is reproduced in colors , the first train with a tilting or pendulum center of gravity with commercial use in the world. Above the central image, in a circular sense and in capital letters, the legend PENDOLINO ETR 450.


On the obverse of the eleventh piece, in the central area, an
image of a Trans Europ Express train locomotive is reproduced in color . Above the central image , in a circular sense and in capital letters, the legend TEE-TRANS EUROP EXPRESS.

On the obverse of the twelfth piece, in the central area, an image of the Tokaido Shinkansen locomotive is reproduced in color, with Mount Fuji in the background. Above the central image, in a circular sense and in capital letters, the legend TOKAIDO SHINKANSEN.


On the obverse of the thirteenth piece, in the central area,
an image of a replica of the Siemens & Halske electric locomotive is reproduced in colors , which is kept in the Deutschen Museum Verkehrszentrum, Munich. Above the central image, in a circular sense and in capital letters, the legend SIEMENS & HALSKE.

On the obverse of the fourteenth piece, in the central area, a drawing of a diesel electric locomotive for the Talgo II train is reproduced in color. Above the central image, in a circular sense and in capital letters, the legend TALGO II.
 


 On the obverse of the fifteenth piece, in the central area,
an image of the Train Grande Vitesse locomotive is reproduced in color . Above the central image,
in circular and capital letters, the legend TGV-TRAIN GRAND VITESSE.

On the reverse (common to all the pieces), within a central circle, in its upper part , the legend HISTORY OF THE RAILWAY appears in capital letters ; below, the value of the 1.5 EURO coin, in two lines and in capital letters; and, below, the mint mark. The legends in the central area are surrounded by a line of pinions. Outside the center circle, an image of a railroad track is reproduced.
All the motifs and legends are surrounded by a beading of pine nuts.
