The issue of coins dedicated to pianists is not a very common topic, nor is it a very popular topic at a general level. If we asked the names of three famous pianists, few would be able to give their names. Today we are going to meet one, but I already warn you that his name will be difficult even to pronounce, György Cziffra.

The Bank of Hungary has issued a silver collector's coin of 7,500 guilders and a cupro-nickel version of 2,000 guilders, both with the same design, by Mihály Fritz, destined to honor the centenary of György Cziffra's birth.

I am sure that you will like the design of this coin, it has captivated me, I think the approach they have given it and the perspective in which the pianist is shown within an exceptionally beautiful frame is a great success.

The obverse of the coin shows György Cziffra in the Saint-Frambourg chapel located in Senlis, France, in the Ferenc Liszt auditorium of the 'Fondation Cziffra' center founded by the pianist. At the bottom, in two lines, the inscription 'MAGYARORSZÁG' (Hungary), in reference to the issuing country and the denominations of 7,500 or 2,000 Ft as face value. On the right, inserted inside the representation of the chapel, the mint mark 'BP'. and the year of issue '2021' are positioned on two lines. 

On the reverse is the portrait of György Cziffra with a concentrated gaze that was so typical of him. To the right of the portrait, the inscription CZIFFRA GYÖRGY and the years "1921-1994" are placed in three lines, referring to the birth and death of the world-famous pianist. On the reverse is also the mark of the artist Mihály Fritz, who designed the coin.
