Știați că denumirea colocvială și cea științifică provine din forma și poziția primei perechi de picioare?
Specia este omniprezentă în Europa, preferă pajiștile aride cu tufe.
Forma capului este triunghiulară și poate fi rotit la 180°.
Este o specie prădătoare, dieta sa constând din greieri, lăcuste, muște și alte insecte.
Canibalismul este prezent la călugărițe, dar este vorba despre un canibalism sexual care în mod normal nu face parte din ritualul de împerechere a speciei, fiind un fenomen ocazional.
În colecția Muzeului Zoologic se află mai multe exemplare de călugărițe

Tudták, hogy az imádkozó sáska zsákmányért „imádkozik”?
Ragadozó faj, étrendjét tücskök, szöcskék, legyek és egyéb rovarok alkotják. Ezekre gyors fogó lábaival csap le.
Feje háromszög alakú és 180° szögben elfordítható.
Az imádkozó sáska megfigyelhető a kannibalizmus, pontosabban az úgy nevezett szexuál kannibalizmus (a hím elfogyasztása a nőstény által párzás során vagy után). A közhiedelemmel ellentétben a szexuális kannibalizmus nem törvényszerű.
Egész Európában megtalálható, kedveli a meleg, száraz, cserjés dombvidéket.
Az Állattani Múzeum gyűjteményében számos egyed található.
