With the commemorative coin «Az égig érő fa» (The tree that reached to the sky), the Bank of Hungary (MNB) starts in 2021 a new series of coins dedicated to presenting the values of Hungarian folk tales, inspired by the series "Hungarian folk tales". This was a great success for the Kecskemét animation studio from the heyday of Hungarian animation film production.

In total, 100 episodes and 12.5 hours of footage were created. In developing the images, the animators relied on ornamental folk art materials collected 100 years ago in historic Hungary, with the Kaláka group performing Hungarian folk songs as musical accompaniment.

The peculiar visual and musical world embodied in Hungarian folk tales and the accompanying narration make this animated series unique. The goodness, humor, cunning, and playfulness of folk tales faithfully reflect the spirit, emotions, and true character of Hungarians.

The obverse of the coin features an image based on the main title of the series 'Hungarian Folk Tales', with a Matyo-style floral pattern with a dove on the left side. The inscription "MAGYARORSZÁG", as the issuing country, the face value "2,000 FORINT" and the year of issue "2021" complete the design of the coin.

The reverse of the coin represents the Giant Tree and a profile of the hero of the story, the swineherd who becomes king, sitting on the shamanic horse Táltos. The legend "Az égig érő fa" (The tree that reached to the sky) is found to the right of the image in two lines, with an inscription similar to the main title. The designer brand, the artist Boglárka Imrei, is located in the lower left of the central motif.
