The Kingdom of Camelot, whose territory extended beyond the seas and where its culture was as great as its mighty army, reigned the Pendragon dynasty, which, according to legend, ran through its veins the blood of the God of Power and Light. T his is the exciting world where he introduces us to a new series of coins that begins its journey with the first piece dedicated to King Arthur or Arthur Pendragon, son of Uther Pendragon who also reigned Camelot.
According to legend, King Arthur led the defense of Great Britain against the Saxon invaders in the late 5th and early 6th centuries AD. As a myth, King Arthur has passed into popular iconography as a synonym for intelligence, honor and loyalty. His sword (Excalibur), a symbol of legitimate power. Its capital, Camelot, an idyllic place of equality, justice and peace. The fact that Arturo and his knights met around a Round Table seems to indicate that Arturo was, according to the Latin expression, a primus inter pares , which means 'first among equals'.
This first coin and all those in the series are composed of two ounces of silver, have a selective gold plating and an antique finish. All this together with its spectacular designs, highlighted by engravings in very high relief, make us face a coin, and a series, with a very special appeal.
The reverse of the coin shows Arthur Pendragon, in armor, fighting his enemies. In his hand he holds a sword, plated in gold, behind are two other warriors and the Castle of Camelot. At the bottom we have the inscription: «CAMELOT ARTHUR PENDRAGON», as the name of the series and the coin.
The coin seen from this perspective shows its very high relief, which allows it to give an extra realism to the scene represented.
On the obverse of the coin appears the shield of King Arthur (Arthur Pendragon), plated in gold and eleven other shields with the names of the protagonists of the next issues of the series. In the center appears the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: "ELIZABETH II", the name of the Queen, "NIUE", as the issuing country, "2021", as the year of issue and "FIVE DOLLARS", the face value.
The coin is presented in a wooden box with a colorful graphic dust jacket, it also has a certificate of authenticity from the Polish Mint, which has been in charge of creating these 500 pieces with which it counts as circulation.
