Still minted in 2020, the Bank of Kazakhstan issued the third coin in the "Flora and Fauna of Kazakhstan" series this May, which on this occasion represents the Torangy, commonly known as the Euphrates Poplar. or desert poplar, is a species of poplar in the willow family.
The Torangy is listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan. Different towns have their own revered trees that are considered sacred and are enlivened with legends. The Japanese have sakura, Europeans have oak, Indians have redwood, and Africans have baobab. Among the ancient nomads, the turangy was considered such a tree, which was worshiped as sacred.
This coin is issued in three versions with the same design, two with 100 tenge facets, one minted in cupro-nickel and the other in nickel silver, in BU and circulation qualities respectively, and another of 200 tenge also in cupro-nickel, but in Proof quality and with a few hints of color.
The reverse of the coins shows the image of an Euphrates poplar on the bottom of a desert dune, in the upper right - the inscriptions TORAŃGY and POPULUS DIVERSIFOLIA (scientific name of the species).
The obverse of the coin, shows on the right side the coat of arms of Kazakhstan surrounded by silhouettes of animals and plants, on the left is represented the logo of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the inscription of the face value (100 or 200 tenge). On the edge of the circumference are the inscriptions (NATIONAL BANK OF KAZAKHSTAN), in Kazakh "ҚАЗАҚСТАН ҰЛТТЫҚ БАНКІ" and English "NATIONAL BANK OF KAZAKHSTAN".
