The second place among the 34 proposals submitted to the design competition went to the graphic designer and associate professor of the Estonian Academy of Arts, Ivar Sakk, and the third place to the architect and student of the Martin Niglas academy. (These designs have not been made public.)

The winning design features an open book with the words of the first president of the Estonian Literature Society, Jacob Hurt: " Kui me ei saa suureks rahvaarvult, peame saama suureks vaimult ", which means " If we cannot be a great nation in numbers, we must be great in spirit.

The Estonian Literature Society was founded in 1872 in Viljandi. The society was founded to promote Estonian literature and writing and thereby raise the cultural level of the Estonian nation.

The winning designer, Riho Luuse, is the designer who also created the two euro coin dedicated to Paul Keres issued in 2016.

The prize for the winner of the design contest is 1500 euros, the second classified will receive 1000 euros and the third 700.

The minting of the coin will be prepared from the winning design of the design contest, this could undergo slight modifications for technical reasons. The Bank of Estonia will publish the final appearance of the coin before it is issued in 2022.

The fourth and last coin in the series "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" features Death riding on his Yellow Horse. This piece and all of the series are composed of two ounces of silver, have a selective gold plating and an antique finish. All this, together with its spectacular designs highlighted by engravings in very high relief, make us look at some coins, at least worthy of admiration, and if we can also add them to our collections, they will be one of the most beautiful and striking.

The coin shows Death on the reverse, mounted on horseback with his golden scythe in hand in a gruesome scene full of horror and death. At the top is the inscription: "FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE", as the name of the series. At the bottom, the inscription: «PALE HORSE», as the name of the coin.

The coin seen from this perspective shows its very high relief, which gives it an extra realism to the scene represented.

On the obverse of the coin, superimposed on a composition showing the four horses of the horsemen of the apocalypse and a scene of war and death, there is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: "ELIZABETH II", name of the Queen, "5 DOLLARS", face value, "Ag 999", the purity of silver, "2021", year of issue and "NIUE", as the issuing country.

The coin is presented in a wooden box with a colorful graphic dust jacket, it also has its numbered certificate of authenticity.

Brâncuși, Omul Infinitului şi opera sa sunt parte din tezaurul naţional. Sculpturile sale fără egal se regăsesc expuse în muzee din întreaga lume, iar numele lui este prețuit pretutindeni.

NERINEA Deshayes 1827 este un gen dispărut de melci de mare fosili, din Familia Nerineidae. Au trăit în apele putin adanci ale mărilor tropicale incepand din Jurasicul inferior pana la extinctia lor in Cretacicul superior (201-70 Mya).
Nerineidele sunt caracterizate de o cochilie turiculata conică construita dintr-un număr variabil de spire si ornate de linii de creștere și tuberculi sau granule. Nerineidele au avut un mod de viață semi-infaunal, colonizând substraturile nisipoase sau calcaroase din zonele de coastă cu apă puțin adâncă și energie moderată, tolerând ocazional și energie mai mare. Sunt prezente în asociere cu rudiști, corali, hidrozoare, echinide și alte gastropode formând o asociatie de fosile caracteristice pentru Marea Tethys-ului în timpul Jurasicului și Cretacicului.
Fosile aparținând diferitelor specii din genul Nerinea au fost descrise din Europa, Africa, America, China și Noua Zeelandă.

The Nerineids are characterized by turreted conical shells that are constructed of a variable number of whorls and ornamented by growth lines and tubercles or granules. Nerineids had a semi-infaunal way of life colonizing the sandy or calcareous substrates of the coastal areas with shallow water and moderate energy, occasionally tolerating higher energy. They are present association with rudists, corals, hydrozoan, echinoids and other gastropods forming a characteristic fossil assemblage for Tethys Sea during Jurassic and Cretaceous.
Fossils belonging to different species of Nerinea genus have been described from Europe, Africa, America, China and New Zealand.

RODOCROZITUL (MnCO3)

 

RODOCROZITUL (MnCO3) este un mineral din categoria carbonaților, având un sistem de cristalizare trigonal.
A fost identificat ca mineral și descris pentru prima dată în România: după unii autori, pe baza eșantioanelor de la Cavnic, Maramureș; potrivit lui Dimitrescu și Rădulescu, 1966 și Papp, 1997, în Săcărâmb, Hunedoara. Numele este derivat din cuvintele grecești "rhodos" şi "khros" care înseamnă culoarea trandafirului. Culoarea rodocrozitului este roz, dar, în funcție de impurități (ioni de metale străine) unele eșantioane pot avea culoare alb translucid, galben, galben-brun, gri-negru.
Mineralul are duritatea între 3,5 - 4,5 pe scara Mohs, caracteristică ce îl deosebește de rodonit (mai dur, 5.5–6.5 pe scara Mohs), cu care se aseamănă ca aspect.
In natură rodocrozitul poate fi găsit frecvent sub formă de cristale, sau sub formă de granule rotunde, uneori cu benzi sau straturi concentrice de nuanțe diferite de roz și roșu în interior.
Rodocrozitul este asociat în rocile hidrotermale cu minereuri de cupru, plumb, argint, dar poate fi întâlnit și în roci metamorfice sau roci sedimentare.
In România, cele mai apreciate exponate provin de la minele de la Cavnic și Săcărâmb.
Rodocrozitul este unul din simbolurile naționale ale Argentinei. Mai este cunoscut și sub numele de „Trandafirul Incașilor” deoarece aceștia credeau despre el că păstrează sângele înaintașilor lor.
Mineralul este o sursă importantă pentru obținerea manganului, fiind utilizat și ca piatră semiprețioasă. Primele utilizări ale rodocrozitului sunt cunoscute încă din antichitate, din perioada Greciei antice.
Eșantionul din colecția muzeului nostru provine de la Cavnic și este expus în sala I.

Știați că există specii de spongieri care folosesc crustaceele ca “mijloc de transport”?
Spongierii sunt specii sesile care trăiesc solitar sau în colonii.
Suberites domuncula este o specie marină care alcătuiește colonii de 3-15 cm și are o culoare gălbui-maronie, uneori roșcată.
S. domuncula se hrănește cu bacterii, filtrând apa mării.
Acest spongier conviețuiește cu diferite specii de crabi din genul Paguristes, într-o relație simbiotică. Spongierul formează un înveliș împrejurul cochiliilor de melci pe care crabul le folosește drept “casă mobilă”, astfel spongierul reușind să ajungă către noi teritorii. Conține suberitină, o neurotoxină care poate provoca hemoliză fatală la diferite specii de animale, apărând astfel crabul de diverși prădători.
Exemplarele de Suberites domuncula din colecția Muzeului Zoologic provin din Marea Mediterană.

Tudták, hogy a szivacsok közt vannak olyan fajok, amelyek „rák-taxival” közlekednek?
A szivacsokra jellemző, hogy helyhez kötött életmódot folytatnak és magányosan vagy telepeket alkotva fordulnak elő. Táplálékukat a vizet átszűrve szerzik.
A vörös paraszivacs tengerekben él, 3-15 cm-es telepeket hozva létre. Színe sárgás-barna, néha vöröses-ibolya.
A faj érdekessége, hogy remeterákokkal él szimbiózisban, a remeterák által rejteknek használt csigaházat teljesen beborítva. Ez a kapcsolat mindkét fél számára előnyös, mert a rák helyváltoztatásával, a paraszivacs is táplálékban gazdag vizekre taxizhat. A rák számára viszont, azért hasznos ez a együttélés, mert a szivacs által termelt szuberitin (idegméreg) fehérje védelmet biztosít számára a ragadozókkal szemben.
A BBTE Állattani Múzeum gyűjteményében lévő vörös paraszivacs a Földközi Tengerből származik.

Sea-orange is a marine species that makes up colonies of about 3-15 cm and has a yellowish-brown color, sometimes reddish.
Sea-oranges feeds on bacteria, filtering seawater.
Sea-orange sponges have a mutual, symbiotic, relationship with various species of crabs from the genus Paguristes. The sponge grows around gastropod shells, which the crab uses as a “mobile house”, helping the sponge to invade new territories. It contains suberitin, a neurotoxin that can cause fatal hemolysis to various species of animals, thus defending the crab from predators.
The sea-oranges specimens from the collection of the Zoological Museum were collected from the Mediterranean Sea.
