Using a strong design and semi-symmetrical aesthetic, the coin highlights the effigies of the 'heroes', the firefighters who work for the community. The design shows a stylized representation of two firefighters back to back, with a colored fireball in the center of the coin. The identity of the two firefighters is hidden, but the figure on the right is shown as male and the figure on the left as female, symbolizing the diversity within the ranks of Australia's firefighters.

The collector's version, presented in the portfolio (40,000), has the only difference that the mintmark «C» presents. Those distributed in rolls, intended for circulation, do not have a mint mark.

The obverse shows, like all 2 dollar coins, the portrait and name of Queen "Elizabeth II", the name of the issuing country "Australia" and the year of issue "2020".
