The Central Bank of Cyprus announces the issuance of a beautiful new coin depicting Leda and the Swan, an outstanding mosaic dating from the 2nd century AD, which decorated the floor of a Roman house found in Palaipafos (ancient Paphos) .
Exactly, the coin represents the moment when Leda, the beautiful and mythical queen of Sparta, had her first encounter with the god Zeus, who had turned into a swan to get closer to her. The mosaic is on display in the Kouklia Museum in Paphos. The coin has been designed by George Stamatopoulos and minted by the Greek mint.
The reverse of the coin shows a composition representing, in mosaic style, Leda standing next to the swan. The face value of the € 5 coin is also displayed.
The obverse of the coin shows the emblem of the Central Bank of Cyprus, the name of the issuing country, "CYPRUS", "ΚΥΠΡΟΣ", or "KIBRIS" and the year of issue "2020".
