The Vatican City Philatelic and Numismatic Office announces the issuance for next October 16 of the Philatelic-Numismatic envelope, popularly known as Busta, which contains the 2 euro commemorative 2020 coin and the stamp with a special stamp, dedicated to the « Centenary of the birth of Saint John Paul II ». The Filátelico-Numisático envelope includes an exclusive card with the reproduction of the seal; the emblem of the Office made in full relief, enriches this prestigious and refined product.

Karol Wojtyla was born on May 18, 1920 in Wadowice, Poland. Elected Pope on October 16, 1978, he ruled the Catholic Church until his death on April 2, 2005. John Paul II was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on May 1, 2011 and canonized by Pope Francis on April 27, 2014.

The coin, designed by Gabriella Titotto, reproduces a portrait of Saint John Paul II, with the Cathedral of Wadowice (Minor Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary) where he was baptized, with his birth house on the right; the architectural complex is dominated by an eight-pointed star, symbol of the Virgin Mary, to which John Paul II was very devoted and to which he dedicated his pontificate. The same star is also the sun, partially obscured by an eclipse: both on the day of birth and on the day of the funeral, a solar eclipse took place, a truly extraordinary astronomical coincidence; In Christian symbols, the sun is the supreme allegory of Christ, a physical representation of the concept of divinity and truth. Finally, the laurel branch refers to the glory of the saints and to victory:

In the upper left part the inscription "PAPA GIOVANNI PAOLO II" can be read in a semicircle. On the right side are the years '1920 2020' and the mint mark 'R'. At the bottom, the name of the issuing State "CITTA 'DEL VATICANO" can be read in a semicircle. Under the image of the basilica appears the name of the artist «G. TITOTTO ”and the initials of the recorder“ MAC INC ”(Maria Angela Cassol, recorder).
