As I know it will be one of the hard-to-get coins of this 2020, I would like to inform you that the second 2 euro commemorative Belgium 2020 coin dedicated to the painter «Jan van Eyck» has just been put on sale. In case you remember us, I remind you that this coin of which only 155,000 pieces are issued does not go into circulation, so to have it you will have to buy one of the 150,000 coincards (two versions) with the coin in BU quality, or one out of 5,000 in Proof quality.

On the right side of the obverse of the coin there is a reproduction of Jan Van Eyck's self-portrait entitled “Portrait of a man with a turban” painted in 1433, while on the left it is part of the author's signature that appears on the painting "The Portrait of Giovanni Arnolfini and his wife". As well as a painter's palette in which the initials "LL" of the designer Luc Luycx are inscribed. Inside a circular exergue that surrounds the motif, the commemorative legend “J. van Eyck ”, on the right, the initials“ BE ”of the issuing country, Belgium and the year of issue“ 2020 ”, and below, the mark of the director of the Belgian mint, Ingrid Herzele (the coat of arms of the municipality of Herzele), and that of the Holland mint in Utrecht (the caduceus of Mercury).
