On June 15 next to the coin for the "Centennial of the Spanish Legion", the National Mint and Stamp Factory - Royal Mint will also make the Euroset Proof 2020 available to collectors. This collection consists of the circulating coins of the year 2020, minted in an artisan way, with blanks and dies specially treated to obtain the highest quality, the Proof quality.

This set includes, in addition to the eight regular circulation coins, the commemorative 2-euro coin. Continuing with the tradition started in 2010 of dedicating the 2-euro commemorative coins to the properties or places included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, according to their order of registration, this year it has corresponded to the «Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon» , in which he represents «The Tower of El Salvador de Teruel».

The coin shows the image of the tower of El Salvador de Teruel. On the left side, in capital letters, there is the inscription «SPAIN», on the right side, the mint mark and, below, the year of issue, 2020. In the upper part of the inner circle, in a circular direction and in capital letters , reads "MUDÉJAR ARCHITECTURE OF ARAGÓN".

The development in the 12th century of Mudejar art in Aragon was the result of the particular political, social and cultural conditions that prevailed in Spain after the Reconquest. This art, influenced by Islamic tradition, also reflects various contemporary European styles, particularly Gothic. Present until the beginning of the 17th century, it is characterized by an extremely refined use of brick and tiles in architecture, especially in bell towers.

The maximum print run for this Euroset Proof with coins dated 2020 is 1,500 units. The retail price, VAT included, is € 70.

Proof quality minting refers to the first samples of a new batch of coins, which was historically made to control the quality of the stamp. Today, these kinds of coins are made frequently and in greater numbers, especially for collectors, and are highly valued.

In the preparation of a PROOF quality coin, the stamps are polished. These coins are distinguished from normal circulation coins by the sharpness of the design, as well as by the great polishing and smoothness of the “fields” (blank or smooth areas that do not form part of the coin design itself).

The presses are fed manually to prevent the blanks from deteriorating. After each minting, the dies are cleaned and replaced at most every thousand stamps. The different handling processes are carried out with great care and, in order not to leave marks or stains, the operators use cotton gloves.

The stamps for these PROOF mintings undergo a polishing process in such a way that the polished areas will be left with a “mirror” finish or effect and the rest of the minting areas will have a “matte” appearance.

A feature of this class of coins is that they are struck two or more times, resulting in greater sharpness and quality.
