We still do not know all the 2 euro commemorative coins that the different countries have prepared for us by 2020, but we can still ensure that the two that Greece will issue will be the best, if not the best, they are a real joy to the view Today I show you some better images to enjoy and more information about its broadcast.

Commemorative 2 Euro coin - 2,500 years of the Battle of Thermopylae
The Battle of Thermopylae is one of the most celebrated clashes between Greeks and Persians, commanded by Leonidas and Xerxes I, respectively, which took place during the so-called "Medical Wars."

The main legacy of the battle of Thermopylae was the world order that was created since then. The line between East and West was even more defined at the political-military level, although the exchange that had been established since the first civilizations was culturally maintained.

As the central motif of the obverse is a Corinthian helmet of a Hoplite warrior adorned with his typical horsehair plume, next to which the palmeta appears, as a mark of the Greek mint, the year of emission “2020” and the author's monogram of design, Georgios Stamatopoulos. Surrounding it all is a circular fret and the legends of the issuing country “ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ” (Hellenic Republic), and the commemorative “2500 XPONIA AΠO TH MAXH TΩN ΘEPMOΠYΛΩΝ” (2500 years of the battle of Thermopylae).

2 euro commemorative coin - 100 years of the incorporation of Thrace into Greece

After many border changes, at the end of the First World War, after the Paris Peace Conference, Greece received the Western Thrace from Bulgaria in 1919, and the Eastern Thrace from Turkey in 1920. But it was not easy for the Greeks to occupy those places since the inhabitants did not allow it and many struggles had to be fought. During the Second World War, the borders changed again, but at the end of it, they returned to the same place. Many Muslims, Bulgarians and Turks live in this region.

As a central motif on the obverse is a replica of an ancient Greek coin, a Tetróbolo or a Statera, minted during the third or fourth century BC in the rich city of Abdera in Thrace. It highlights a tap, being mythological half lion and half eagle that was adopted by Abdera as an emblem for its coinage. Around next to the palm, as a mark of the Greek mint, and a year of emission "2020", there are the legends of the issuing country "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ" (Hellenic Republic), and the commemorative "100 XPONIA AΠO THN ENΣΩMATΩΣH THΣ ΘPAKHΣ" ( 100 years since the incorporation of Thrace into Greece). The monogram of the author of the design, Georgios Stamatopoulos appears just below the front legs of the tap.

The Greek government unveiled at the beginning of February its numismatic program for the year 2020 in which it specified the designer of the coin as well as the circulation and its distribution in the different qualities.
