The fourth German coin of 5 euros, of the Climate Zone series, in which the polymer is used as part of it, dedicated to the Subpolar Zone and corresponding to the year 2020, has a design that has been unveiled today October 30 by the German Ministry of Finance. This will be the fourth piece of the five that make up the series and that are broadcast between 2017 and 2021 (one per year). The 2020 will feature the plastic and translucent ring in turquoise color, in addition each of the five German vines will give a different hue to this color.
The design corresponds to the artist Natalie Tekampe on the back. The obverse, common to the entire series, was designed by artist Stefanie Radtke.
On the reverse of the coin a characteristic landscape of an area with subpolar climate is shown. The nakedness of a coastal tundra can be seen clearly. The animal reindeer that inhabits the climatic zone is shown in the foreground. The eroded mountains and ravines typical of subarctic mountain ranges are shown within the composition. At the bottom of the landscape, on the left, there is a structure that shows the presence of humans in the area.
On the obverse is an eagle, the word "Federal Republic of Germany", the face value "5 euro", the year "2020", the twelve European stars and, depending on the mint, the Mint brand " A ”(Berlin),“ D ”(Munich),“ F ”(Stuttgart),“ G ”(Karlsruhe) or“ J ”(Hamburg).

The 5 Euro coin "Subpolar Zone" consists of two different copper-nickel alloys and a turquoise translucent polymer ring. It has a weight of 9 grams and is produced in two coinage qualities, BU and Proof.
The currency in BU quality will be put up for sale at its nominal value (5 euros) in the Federal Banks of Germany. The coin with the Proof finish will go on sale for a higher price, yet to be determined.
